Awards

                                                           Awards for My Books

                                                            Grady's  in  the  Silo

One of the awards I received for Grady's in the Silo was the Oklahoma Center for the Book Award in 2004. Grady was my first book and was published by Pelican Publishing Co. I was surprised and very grateful to receive such a wonderful award in the children's category.

Later that year, I received an IRA/Children's Choice Award. I was, again, surprised when Pelican called to tell me about it. They said that over 10,000 children read a variety of books throughout the year and vote on the ones they like the best. I was thrilled to be among the winners that year.

For The Great Elephant Escape

My book, The Great Elephants Escape, also received an award. The Oklahoma Writer's Federation, Inc. gave my elephant book their 2013 their Best Juvenile Book Award. I received a beautiful plaque at their annual awards banquet.

Sunsets and Haiku
Creative Women of Oklahoma Award for Poetry

This award was given to me by Gamma State of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International.  It was presented in Oklahoma City along with three other Creative Women of Oklahoma Awards including my friend, Hannah Harrison for her illustrations in her Bernice book.

For Racecar Driver's Night Before Christmas

Although my Racecar Driver's Night Before Christmas did not receive any awards, it was picked to be included in Pelican's Night Before Christmas series. The late James Rice illustrated many of the Night Before Christmas books produced by Pelican, but he died before illustrating my book. A very talented Rick Anderson was the illustrator of my racecar book.

The Racecar Driver's Night Before Christmas was part of a Christmas parade in Bartlett, TN on Dec. 2, 2017. The theme of the parade was Christmas Stories, so a Scout leader asked permission to use the book as their theme. They built a float using a Pinewood Derby car, and it won second place.
